The low speed internet in ASIA

According to a report from Akamai, the average speed of the Internet in Indonesia is low, when compared with other countries in the Asia Pacific region.

Average Internet speeds in the 2nd quarter of 2012 is only 0.8 megabits per second, equivalent to 100 Kilobytes per second.

However, the speed of the Internet in Indonesia in the quarter increased 7.2 percent from last quarter and up 20 percent from last year.

 Owner highest Internet speeds in the Asia-Pacific region is South Korea. In the land of K-Pop is, the average user to use the Internet with a speed of 14.2 megabits per second, corresponding to 1817 Kilobytes per second.

and Malaysia can access the Intenet with speed 5.1 megabits per second (652 kilobytes per second) and 2.2 megabits per second (281.6 kilobytes per second).

According Mastel Chairman, Setyanto P Santosa, slow Internet connection in Indonesia because Indonesia mistaken in defining broadband.

"About 95 per cent of internet connections in the country still use the wireless connection, the rest have cable. Indonesia was wrong," said Setyanto.

He said the wireless technology is designed for low traffic. However, in Indonesia, the connection is actually used for high traffic. As a result, the internet connection in Indonesia seem slow.

In fact, the word Setyanto, as developing countries, fixed broadband connection it should be enlarged, rather than wireless connections.
